The Linux Workshop returned to the WPCUG on April 17th .

The meeting was held on the day when temperatures hit 97 degrees in NY.

Nobody thought the school would be locked, blocking this newly re-started group access to the projector, modem line, electricity, chairs, etc.

Not to be deterred, this hardy group, held their meeting on the steps to the school, just outside the front door. The seats were hard as stone, well, they literally were stone, but the group was warm (seriously warm!) and friendly.

Don Altman, Ph.D., our presenter, simply used his notebook on battery power and gave his presentation despite the occasional noise of a dog or kid walking by. (Note the "desk" and the "projector" in the foreground.) Click here

Many members spoke up either asking questions or helping answer them. There was a real spirit of cooperation, mirroring the "open source" community which develops and updates the Linux operating system and Linux programs for the good of us all. (Contrary to another model that we are familiar with.) All attendees left with a disk of Linux resource bookmarks from the presenter, and a manuscript for beginners, donated by the author/member. We're developing a lending library of Linux CD's.

If you're interested in Linux, come to the next meeting (May 21st 7:00 pm. at the White Plains Middle School) We will be having presentations for beginners and intermediates, and experts will help teach and compare notes with other pros.

One person, having heard of the outdoor meeting, said, "That's a group I'd expect to be able to find alternatives." Indeed!
